Raid your kitchen to clean your bathroom. #GreenCleaning

The bathroom is the place in the house that most people hate to clean, and it’s a tough sell to get them on board with using non-toxic cleaning products. But you don’t have to worry about accidentally dying when you use green cleaning products instead of products like Lysol’s “harmful or fatal if swallowed” toilet bowl cleaner that also suggests wearing safety goggles when you use it. So dust off that list of ingredients to make your own green cleaning products and head to the bathroom!

1. Baking Soda Fights Smells

Baking soda is a natural way to remove odours, and the bathroom is a minefield of those. Fill a decorative bowl with baking soda and place it on top of the toilet. You can also sprinkle baking soda in your trash can after emptying it to help with odour control.

2. Toilet Cleaned with Vinegar and Baking Soda

Pour half a cup of vinegar into your toilet bowl and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then sprinkle baking soda in and scrub with a toilet brush to remove any stains. No safety goggles required, and the vinegar and baking soda definitely won’t kill you if you accidentally swallow some.

3. Unclog drains with (yep!) Baking Soda and Vinegar

The toxic bottle of drain cleaner might seem tempting when you’re dealing with a clogged drain, but try to resist. Pour ½ cup of baking soda into the drain followed by ½ cup of vinegar. Keep this covered for at least half an hour and then flush it all out with boiling water. For tougher clogs, we recommend using an enzyme cleaner like Earthworm Drain Cleaner, which contains natural enzymes to break down whatever is clogging your drain.

4. Mirror Cleaned with Vinegar and Water

Mix ¼ cup of vinegar with distilled water in a spray bottle and spritz on your mirror. If you happen to have yesterday’s newspaper sitting on the table, it’s a great way to wipe off the spray and keep your mirror free of streaks.

5. Get Grout Stains Out with Baking Soda, Dish Soap, and Water

Mix up a batch of this magical baking soda paste and say goodbye to mildew stains on the grout in your tub or shower. For the paste, take 4 ounces of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap, and ¼ cup of warm water. Apply the paste to the grout and then scrub it with one of your old toothbrushes until the mildew is gone. Then rinse and breathe deeply because you’re not inhaling any toxic chemicals!

Of course, if you don’t have the time or energy to clean your own bathroom, you can always find a cleaning service that uses green cleaning products. Nudge your friends in this direction by sharing this article with them!
